Remediation

For our final project, we were asked to take our original paper used in the repurposing assignment to again rewrite the piece - this time, however, in another form of media, and to justify our decision to use a specific medium and how the document must be changed to best suit the tone and other needs of a different medium.

Thankfully, in contrast to my repurposing project, I did not have to agonize over a topic for my remediation assignment. I was, however, at a loss for what medium I should use. This, of course, was only important if I figured out what new audience or purpose this project should be for. However, I actually found it easier to think of mediums and how I could tweak my project to fit them instead of the other way around, since there are far fewer mediums than there are reasons to make a media project. I ultimately decided on a video, because I have experience with iMovie and I do not have a commanding enough voice for a podcast. This informed my decision not to do any voiceover, as well as the fact that I chose not to incorporate footage or narration at the risk of having the video appear more amateur than I could help. The video was supposed to be more of an informative, "something interesting about science" video that have recently gone viral, but I found the project naturally finding itself in more of the op-ed vibe from my repurposing project. Though I ran into some problems with iMovie, including being ultimately unable from keeping the text from automatically shifting on title screens, I am quite pleased with the outcome. I used a song from one of my favorite modern pianists, Ludovico Einaudi.
